Ontario Minimum Wage Set to Increase October 1, 2021

Minimum wage is about to go up by 10 cents for Ontario workers. As of October 1, 2021, the general minimum wage will be $14.35 per hour, or $13.50 per hour for students under the age of 18.

The minimum wage for employees who serve liquor (this includes all wait staff in a licensed establishment) will go up to $12.55 per hour. The minimum wage for homeworkers will go up to $15.80 per hour. A home worker is defined as anyone who does contract work in their own home, for example, answering calls at home for a call centre. Note that students who are employed as homeworkers must be paid the homeworker’s rate, not the student rate.
