Starting October 1st 2024, the Ford government will be raising the minimum wage to $17.20 an hour. This marks a 65-cent increase (3.9 per cent) from the current rate of $16.55.

The government estimates that a person earning minimum wage and working 40 hours per week will see an annual increase to their pay of up to $1,355.

Rates will also be increasing for students ($16.20) and homeworkers ($18.90).

The new minimum wage rate will be the second highest in Canada, behind British Columbia’s $17.40 per hour.

Last week, the federal government announced it is raising the minimum wage for federally regulated private sector workers to $17.30 per hour on April 1.
